In October 2015 the law is set to change regarding smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors, so now is the time to prepare if you are a Landlord.
All rented properties will require a working smoke alarm to be fitted to each floor of the property and a CO detector shall be required in any room with a boiler, burning stove or open fire or gas cooker.
Most landlords will have some alarms in place but perhaps not all or not in the correct room and as such we are in the process of compiling a list of each property’s requirements if your property is being managed by McCarthy Holden.
With Landlords consent / approval we shall be asking our gas safe engineers to fit any required units in the coming months and we can advised in due course of the costs for the CO detectors (7 year life expectancy) and the smoke alarms (10 year life expectancy) plus fitting.
I am sure landlords will agree that any legislation aimed at protecting both their property and their tenants can only be positive and as such shall fully support the task that we must now undertake.
